The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe says its mission of evangelisation through choirs has been successfully advanced following the inaugural Archdiocesan Choir Festival held at Maula Podium in Lilongwe.

Archdiocesan PMS Director, Fr Geoffrey Chikapa, said this on Saturday during the final day of the festival, which was jointly organised by the PMS office and the Archdiocesan Choirs as part of activities marking 100 years of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

Fr Chikapa described the festival as the beginning of a promising initiative, saying the platform will enable choirs to share their musical talents while continuing to spread the Gospel through singing.

He commended the organising committee and all stakeholders for ensuring the successful hosting of the event.

“Let me express my gratitude. This choir festival has been professionally organised and has served its intended purpose of evangelisation,” said Fr Chikapa.

Meanwhile, Archdiocesan Choir Chaplain Fr Andrew Kaponya said he was pleased with the festival, describing it as a significant milestone in strengthening the Church’s mission of spreading the Gospel through music.

Fr Kaponya said the choirs will continue working closely with the PMS office, noting that both share the same mission of proclaiming the Gospel.

“Let me say that we will continue working together with the PMS office to ensure that we continue spreading the message of the Lord, in line with our slogan, ‘Mpingo Ndife Tonse, Tiyende Limodzi’,” he said.

On his part, Lilongwe Archdiocese Choirs Chairperson Ephraim Gama expressed satisfaction with the turnout, saying the participation had demonstrated the potential and bright future of choirs within the Archdiocese.

Gama said the festival also provided an opportunity for choirs to learn from one another, share their talents and strengthen their contribution to the Church’s evangelisation mission.
