The Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe has urged its lay faithful to reflect on the teachings shared during this year’s Mission Month animations in order to deepen their spiritual lives.
Monsignor Patrick Thawale of the Archdiocese made the call today during a Eucharistic celebration marking the official closure of this year’s Mission Month activities at Chimamba Zone, under St. Francis de Sales (Manyani) Parish in Kasungu.
Monsignor Thawale highlighted that the end of Mission Month activities does not mean Christians should relax, rather, they should reflect on what they have been taught and continue preaching the Gospel.
He added that with the nation currently facing various challenges, such as fuel shortages and financial hardship, it is the duty of the lay faithful to bring hope to the hopeless.

“Many people across the country are feeling frustrated by these ongoing challenges. As Christians, this is the time we must deepen our prayers to bring hope to those in despair,” Monsignor Thawale said.
Also speaking at the event, the Archdiocesan Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), Father Geoffrey Chikapa, expressed gratitude for the success of this year’s activities.
Fr Chikapa noted that the animatitions bhave helped the lay faithful better understand their role in the Catholic Church, particularly through deepening their prayer lives and giving offerings to God.
He assured the gathering that his office will conduct follow-up pastoral visits to monitor the impact of the teachings.

“What we have done here is like planting a seed, which must be nurtured to bear good fruit. I assure you that we will return to evaluate the progress,” Fr. Chikapa stated.
Vice Chairperson of Manyani Parish Zakeyo Ngoma, expressed joy that their parish led this year’s Mission Month activities, saying it has helped Christians to understand their mandate within the Church.
Ngoma emphasized that parish leaders will now make it their obligation to ensure that the lessons learnt are put into practice to fulfill the Church’s ongoing mission of evangelization.
