The Divine Mercy Apostolate of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, on Monday, 14 September 2026, marked the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ at Maula Cathedral.

 

The celebration began with a meditation as part of efforts to reflect on and deepen understanding of the power and significance of the cross of Jesus Christ.

The main celebrant, Father Richard M’thana, commended the large number of the faithful who participated in the event, hoping that the lessons they have learnt will help strengthen their spiritual lives.

 

Father M’thana encouraged the Christians to continue putting their trust in God and praying regularly so that they can overcome the challenges they face, just as Jesus Christ endured and overcame suffering on the cross.

 

“I urge all Christians to continue trusting in God and praying regularly so that they can overcome the challenges they face, just as Jesus Christ did on the cross,” Father M’thana explained.

 

Meanwhile, Divine Mercy Apostolate Chairperson in the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Lenard Chimbende said the cross of Jesus Christ represents victory over various challenges that Christians encounter in their daily lives.

 

Chimbende said the meditation held during the celebration would help participants deepen their Christian faith and understand God’s mercy.

 

 

“The gathering helped us appreciate the importance of forgiveness, perseverance, and showing love and compassion to others,” Chimbende said.

 

The Divine Mercy Apostolate commemorates and honours the Holy Cross on 14 September every year.

 

This year’s celebration brought together members of the apostolate from different deaneries across the Archdiocese of Lilongwe.
