Cooperatives Exchange Visit Promotes Learning and Growth

Nkhunguyembe Cooperative in Mkanda Extension Planing Area (EPA) are set to receive 100 representative from 8 visiting SoyBean cooperatives from Lilingwe, along with 10 extension workers today for an exchange visit.

The visit aims to facilitate learning from the host’s experiences in governance, financial management, record keeping, and tractor management.

The visiting officials, totaling 10 from various EPAs in Lilongwe, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to share knowledge and best practices.

“We’re excited to learn from Nkhunguyembe’s success,” said one official. “Their model of cooperative management is impressive, and we hope to replicate it in our own EPAs.”

Nkhunguyembe Cooperative, a beneficiary of the TRADE Programme’s ACIF grant, has made significant strides in agricultural development. The cooperative’s tractor, acquired through the grant, has greatly enhanced their farming operations.

The exchange visit is expected to foster stronger relationships among cooperatives and promote growth in the agricultural sector.

Transforming Agriculture through Diversification and Entrepreneurship (TRADE) is a Government of Malawi programme implemented by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development; and Ministry of Industrialization, Business, Trade and Tourism with financial support from IFAD, OFID and other partners.

This program is being carried out in 11 districts and aims to increase incomes and improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers through agricultural diversification, value addition, and entrepreneurship.
