MALAWI TO HOST ACWECA PLENARY ASSEMBLY AND GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
The president of the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA), Sr Rosalia Sakayombo has described the incoming plenary meeting as time to reflect on issues which the region is facing.
Sr. Rosalia made the sentiments today, 25 June 2024 at a press briefing in Lilongwe prior to their 19th Plenary Assembly and Golden Jubilee Celebrations from August 18 to 24, 2024 in Lilongwe, Malawi.
She is of the view that as young people are now consumed with social media, there is a need to reflect on the coming new vocations.
She says “there are so many issues that are happening in the world that are very cardinal to our lives. Look at the media use. There’s a lot of media abuse and we are getting young people that are coming as new vocations to our congregations and we have to get in touch with how they are using the media.”
Sr. Rosalia Sakayombo also added that they expect to share more on how the region can strongly build their families.
Sr. Rosalia concluded that they expect to discuss about how they can help to produce fruitful leaders across the ACWECA region.
“We have issues of leadership. What kind of leadership capacity are we providing to our leaders in the region so that we become fruitful leaders, leaders that are Christ-centered, not eye-centered but Christ-centered,” she concluded.
Religious sisters from across the ACWECA region, including Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Zimbabwe will be in attendance.
There will be a Eucharistic Mass which will usher the celebrations on 19 August 2024 which will be celebrated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia, Archbishop Gianluca Perici and His grace George Desmond Tambala of the Catholic archdiocese of Lilongwe at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
The theme for the Golden Jubilee is “Transformative Holistic Formation for Authentic Living towards a Deeper Evangelization in the ACWECA Region and Beyond (John 14:16).”
