Inspiring the Next Generation: St Maria Goretti Girls School Celebrates Success

Deputy Principal for St. Maria Goretti Girls Catholic Secondary School in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, John C Kumwenda has reaffirmed the school’s commitment in maintaining its vision of being part of the best performing schools in the country.

Kumwenda said this today at the school’s premises in Area 2, Lilongwe, when the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was awarding the best performing Junior Certificate of Education (JCE)and Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE) students during the 2024 national examinations and appreciating teachers and workers at the school.

According to the deputy principal, completing their learning syllabus in time and also encouraging students to study hard has been some of the secrets behind successful results at the school during the national examinations.

“Our secret behind these good results, first of all, we believe in discipline. When students and teachers practice discipline, there is always success, and we also make sure that our students are being assisted thoroughly in their academic journey, “said Kumwenda.

He also mentioned the school’s intention of having students with 6 points in the MSCE results every year.

On his part, the PTA treasure, Chrispin Matonga said they thought of organizing the ceremony as part of motivating students to continue working hard in their academics and also as a way of commending the school management for the wonderful job they are doing.

In her remarks, Favour Phiri, who is the best performing student at the school with 11 points, said being attentive in class and studying hard, has been the secret for her success.

“I want to encourage my fellow young girls that they have to work hard in everything that they want to achieve. They don’t have to give up, and my goal now is that I want to study engineering at Malawi University of Science Technology,” she said.

In the 2024 MSCE, the school managed to produce a 100 percent pass rate with 11 points as the highest. 28 Girls best performing students in MSCE and 5 best performing JCE students have been awarded during the ceremony.
