The Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe has urged the faithful to dedicate themselves to prayer and generously support the Church’s mission of spreading the Gospel during this year’s Mission Month.
Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, His Lordship Vincent Frederick Mwakhwawa, made the call on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during the launch of Mission Month at Mzimu Woyera Zone under St Francis De Sales Manyani Parish in Kasungu.
Bishop Mwakhwawa said every Christian, by virtue of baptism, is called to serve and contribute to the work of evangelisation.
His Lordship therefore urged the faithful to pray for the Church and support its mission of spreading the Gospel.

The Bishop also described prayer as fundamental to transforming society, saying it can help change the hearts of people entrusted with positions of responsibility so that they can effectively discharge their duties.
“Prayer is fundamental as far as transforming the lives of people is concerned,” Bishop Mwakhwawa said.
Meanwhile, Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in the Archdiocese, Father Geoffrey Chikapa, expressed satisfaction with the successful launch of Mission Month, saying it followed extensive preparations.

Father Chikapa said the PMS office will be conducting pastoral visits to parishes to assess how the faithful are responding to the call to pray, contribute to the Church and participate in evangelisation.

“The centre of the message today has been a call for Christians to serve in the vineyard and contribute to the Church. As the PMS office, we will make sure there are follow-ups to see if really Christians are responding to the call,” Father Chikapa said.
For his part, Manyani Parish Vice Chairperson Zakeyo Ngoma commended the PMS office for choosing the parish to host this year’s Mission Month in the Archdiocese.

Ngoma said the launch had helped the faithful gain a better understanding of the Church’s teachings and their role in supporting its mission.
He said the animations and preparations conducted ahead of the launch have helped Christians appreciate the importance of prayer and contributing to the Church.
