Ministry of Health Recognizes Top-Performing Districts (5) for Immunization Efforts

The Ministry of Health has lauded immunization as a vital tool in safeguarding public health and promoting development in Malawi.

Speaking at an awards ceremony in Lilongwe on 13th September 2024, Deputy Minister of Health Hon. Halima Daudi recognized five districts that excelled in immunization services. The Ministry awarded these districts over K6 million to encourage continued efforts and motivate others to improve their performance.

Daudi emphasized the importance of immunization in preventing disease transmission and protecting individuals from a range of illnesses.

“If somebody is immunized or is being vaccinated, it’s hard for him or her to get more diseases.,” she stated. “So, even passing the disease to other people would be also difficult, because he’s immunized or she’s immunized.”

One of the award recipients, Rumphi District Council, expressed gratitude for the recognition and motivation it received.

Dr. Arnold Jumbe, Director of Social Services for Rumphi district, attributed their success to effective collaboration among health workers and active community involvement.

“Our immunization activities are done in the community,” Jumbe explained. “The community is able to come with the children for immunization, there are also some other communities that organize themselves to make sure that they are able to come with their children for immunization.”

The Ministry of Health awarded the following district councils: Rumphi from Northern Region Zone, Nkhotakota (Central East Zone), Ntcheu (Central West Zone), Balaka (Southeast Zone), and Blantyre (Southwest Zone).
